The Platters, one of the popular bands from yester year, will be performing at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo on November 2.
With over 400 songs recorded, 100 million copies sold, 27 movies, performances throughout the world and induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, The Platters hardly need an introduction. Their well-known hits – such as ‘The Great Pretender’, ‘Only You’, “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’, ‘Twilight Time’ – are perennial favourites; their sound, which was the bridge between the pre-rock tradition and the new genre of the 1950s, is distinctive and memorable. They now tour the world with Monroe Powell – the last of the three lead singers of the original group formed by Buck Ram – at the helm.
This gala show, which includes a delicious three course dinner, is the highlight of a three-show tour in Colombo. Accompanied on this tour by Kenny Jaye, (Kenny Johnson), Don Gloude and Geneveive Dew, Monroe Powell will put on an exhilarating and spectacular performance, singing all the hits of The Platters.
The show will take place at the King’s Court Ballroom from 7.00 pm onwards. Tickets are priced at Rs.6,500 per person (inclusive of dinner). |
