Ramani Damayanthi, Creative Director of Thidora Theatre was among the winners of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Sri Lanka [TOYP2009] and won in the category for her contribution to children.
Ramani Damayanthi has been conducting Drama Therapy workshops for the disabled since 1990. Her talent and commitment makes her a great asset to spread the concept of inclusive education using drama therapy to able the disabled and pave the way for disadvantaged to become a fully-fledged human beings.
She has won the Best Actress Award in 1994, 1995 & 1998 at the National Youth Drama Festival and 1996 at the State Drama Festival and has appeared in numerous Stage and Television plays as a prominent actress, but instead of perusing a glamorous career, she has chosen to dedicate her talent to enhance the lives of children with special needs using theatre art as a therapeutic tool.
She is a key member of the Thidora Theatre which introduced the first ever integrated theatre troupe in Sri Lanka. (www.thidoratheatre.org).
The TOPY ceremony was organized by Junior Chamber International and HSBC Bank. Mr. D.P.M.T.Jayamanna, Minister Rishard Bathiudeen, Mr. M.U.M.Ali Sabry, Mr. Wasantha Dukgannarala, Mr.Ajantha Mendis [Sri Lankan Cricketer] ,Mr.Sisil Kumarawadu, Dr. P.Katulanda, Mr. S.A.Anurudha Bandara and Mr.Asitha Pinnawadu were among others who won the awards. |
