Celebrating the 80th birthday of veteran filmmaker, editor television producer, Titus Totawatta book ‘Sonduru Adiyuru Sakasuwano’ (The Humane Editor and Director) authored by young writer, Nuwan Nayanajith Kumara will be launched on November 5 at 3 pm at Kularatne Hall, Ananda College, Colombo.

Felicitating this pioneer film editor and TV producer, the felicitationis organised by the Dubbing Unit of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation together with the Old Anandian Media Circle.
Veteran actor Joe Abeywickrema, Athula Ransirilal, the head of the Dubbing Unit of SLRC and writer Nayanajith Kumara are to deliver short speeches on the life and work of Mr. Totawatta who rendered an invaluable service to the country’s cinema and television.
“Having enjoyed and benefited much from his television productions and works in the cinema I felt it was the responsibility of our generation to honour Titus Totawatta,” said Nuwan explaining the backdrop to the writing of the book.
At a time the medium of television is full of trash and so called reality programmes it is important to reflect how people like Totawatte used this medium for education and entertainment, he added.
‘While researching on Totawatta I came to know that he was the first Sri Lankan film editor to introduce a novel approach to editing.
Having studied through western cinema, some of editing techniques of Titus was far beyond Indian cinema which Sri Lankan cinema has mostly depended on,’ the young writer explained.
Printed and published by S. Godage and Brothers, the book with 400 pages is comprised of nearly 200 rare pictures related to Totawatte’s life. |
