Schools soccer reaches knockout stage

The Milo All Island Under 18 Schools Soccer Championship has reached the knockout stage. The tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA) and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd got underway in October and was held in three divisions.

The league matches of the Division Two category have been completed and the two teams to clash in the final have been found. Two teams to qualify for the finals are both Zahira’s from Gampola and Mawanella.
The final of this is scheduled to be played at the Henry Pedris Park in Colombo on November 9 with the kick off set for 3.15 p.m. Zahira Gampola in booking their berth to the final beat Kinniya Central Trincomalee 4-0. Zahira Mawanella overcame Thurstan 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

Rev. Bro Granville Perera, President of the SLSFA briefing the media said that all arrangements have been finalized to conduct the Division One and Three categories.

The two semi finals of the Division Three category are scheduled to be worked off at the Cooray Park in Wellawatte on November 8. The first will be played at 9.00 a.m. and the second at 10.30 a.m. The final of this category is due to be played at the Henry Pedris Park on November 9 at 1.30 p.m. Meanwhile the final round matches of the Division One category are scheduled to be played on November 12 at four venues in Colombo. The quarter final line up on this date is 9.00 a.m. Hameed Al Hussain College vs Wayamba Royal at St Benedict’s College ground, Kotahena. 3.00 p.m. Zahira Colombo vs St Anne’s Kurunegala at Reid Avenue. 10.30 a.m. Isipathana vs St Thomas Matara at Kotahena and 3.00 p.m. St Benedict’s vs Dharmaraja Kandy at Kotahena.

The semi finals are scheduled to be played at Longdon Place on November 13 at 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. The final has been slotted to be played on November 16 at the City Football Complex ground in Slave Island
