Tame draw at Darley Road

DiThe match between St. Joseph’s and De Mazenod Kandana ended in a tame draw at Darley Road yesterday. There was no play in the morning session due to a wet outfield and the match began only at 2.30 p.m.

St. Joseph’s who ended the first day on 128 for 4 after bowling out the Mazenodians for 78, declared their innings at this score on day two. De Mazenod batting the second time faced only 42 overs to end the day on 73 for 7.

Meanwhile not a ball was bowled in the match between S. Thomas’ and Dharmaraja at Mt Lavinia and the encounter between Ananda and Trinity at Ananda Mawatha.

The match between St. Sebastian’s and Royal was which was due to be played at Moratuwa was postponed to an indefinite date.

Vidyartha take first innings lead

Vidyartha did well to beat the showers and take a first innings lead over Kegalu Vidyalaya in their tournament match concluded at Kegalle yesterday.

The Kegalle lads recovered from a perilous position to total a modest 140. Weerasinghe battled on to top score with an unbeaten 61 (4x8). Left arm bowler Attanayake accounted for four wickets.

Ruwan Bandara (4x4, 6x4) batted very aggressively for his 62 while Gunatilleke made a hard-hit 30. Vidyartha took the lead minutes before the heavens opened up.
