The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ms. Patricia A. Butenis declared open two schools --Amman Nagar Ambaal Tamil Vidiyalayam and Arafat Muslim Vidiyalayam-- in Muttur east in the Trincomalee district on Tuesday. The schools were badly damaged during the years of conflict.
Speaking at the event Ambassador Butenis said, “Stronger schools lead to a better education, which leads to more opportunities for young people. These schools are symbols that a brighter and better future is possible...”
The schools were two of five rebuilt by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with funding from the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) as part of its program to help former conflict-affected communities to return to normalcy as quickly as possible.
Provincial Director of Education Mr. S. Thandayuthapani and local leaders participated at the event. |
