In ancient Rome, on the banks of the Tyber,
At the Coliseum, Romans gather
To witness cruel animal hunts and gladiators fight each other,
They revel in the spillage of blood and cheer.
In modern Sri Lanka, on our western seashore,
South of the metropolis they adore,
People gather on a railtrack ashore
And tolerate the slaughter of a bro.
Many witnessed, some televised the brutal episode;
No one tried to prevent the crime, they all lacked bravado
Guardians of law, protectors of citizens, allowed the waves to swallow
The young life of Sivakumar, whose mental abilities were low.
Thousands of years have passed since the Romans;
In civilised nations human rights have become mere slogans;
Ethics have no bearing on inhuman morons;
When will we become decent humane Sri Lankans?
