Solo strokes by Manoj

Manoj Nalaka, a self-taught artist will hold his first solo exhibition of paintings titled ‘Conflicts over humanity + gender’ at the American Centre in Colombo from tomorrow.

His theme touches on the cultural and social degradation that has affected the people of this country in the three-decade long war. It was a chance meeting with Jeff Anderson, the Press and Cultural Affairs Director of the US Embassy in Colombo, at “Kala Pola” earlier this year that led to the realisation of Nalaka’s lifelong dream of holding a solo exhibition.

A past pupil of Vijitha National College, Dikwella, Nalaka learnt his first brush strokes from his art teachers Lalani Handapangoda and Chinta Siriwardena.

Since then he has experimented on his own and developed his own style of drawing. The exhibition will continue till November 26. Entrance is free.
