The President of the Institute of Personnel Management, Lalith A.P. Wijetunge, has won the 'Pride of HR Profession Award' at the Asia HR Congress 2009 held recently in Bangalore, India.
Mr. Wijetunge who was the only award-winner from among the SAARC countries except India this year, said it was in recognition of his contribution to the HR profession as IPM President in the past two years and the services rendered by him as a people manager of various organizations.
"I work closely with other professional bodies locally and globally in contributing HR management expertise to other professional bodies. At present I am the Head of Human Resources in one of the oldest print media establishments in the country," he said.
IPM is the only incorporated professional body for HR managers in Sri Lanka. Our infrastructure facilities are of a high standard and we have a state-of-the-art seven-storey building with well-equipped high-tech lecture rooms and library with over 5,000 books," he said, adding that its business school has a student base of over 3,500. It conducts the foundation programme for beginners and the certificate course in HRM and the highest professional qualififcation in HR (PQHRM) programmes.
IPM is in the process of preparing a National HR Policy on the request of the government, he said.
The IPM is the Secretary-General of the Asia Pacific Federation of HR Management and member of the World Federation of HR Management Associations.
