Ahmedabad: As the Sri Lanka team prepares to head to Ahmedabad, the venue of the first Test of their three-match series against India, the city police denied of any particular terror threat on the visiting team.
"There is no intelligence input of terrorist a threat to Sri Lankan team in Ahmedabad," the district Range Inspector General (IG) Ashish Bhatia said.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Satish Sharma accepted there was a general threat of terror in Gujarat but nothing specifically targeting the Sri Lankan team. He also assured total security measures being taken for the cricketers.
"There is a general threat of terror in Gujarat and the state police is taking all precautionary measures to deal with it. The warning was issued by the central government after the arrest of David Headley by FBI in the US.
"We are also checking bike riders in the city. Many crimes like chain snatching and looting are also committed by people using bikes.
We are doing this as a precautionary measure," Sharma said.
The Sri Lankans, who were attacked by terrorists in Lahore earlier in the year, are scheduled to play the first Test in Ahmedabad, starting November 16
