By Shanaka Jayawardana |
The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation with the help of the German National Olympic Committee are to carry out an Athletic Development Programme for Kids. This programme will be conducted by the world famous athletic development expert Bjorn Wangemann, former Director Development in the IAAF.
The programme is due to conduct three seminars in Piliyandala, Anuradhapura and Kegalle, that will host around 80 participants each. The participants will consist mostly of teachers, who are mainly involved in the development stage of young athletes under the age of 15, according to Mr. L.K. Jayaweera (Director Sports and Physical Education).
The participants for this programme will be chosen from all over the country, with the ministry of education having informed the various districts to pick out the teachers and officials involved in the coaching and physical education aspects of the junior students.
Mr. Jayaweera went on to say that this sort of training aid is extremely helpful in bringing out the hidden abilities of athletes as their talent can be spotted and developed at a fledgling stage as the officials involved will have the necessary know-how to do so. |
