The academic ranking of world universities carried out by Shanghai Jio Tang university shows that 60 of the world's best universities are to be found in the United states" delivering the welcome address so said Mrs.Sherryn Yaseen Mangalagma, the founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the American College of Higher Education at its Transfer and Graduation 2009 Ceremony held at Kings Court in Cinnamon Lakeside in Colombo on November 29.Congratulating the graduating and transferring students she further said the American College of Higher Education through its numerous affiliations with American Universities and Colleges has given a good start in a world class education and it's up to the graduating students to join the ranks of the successful American graduates.
The theme of the 7th Transfer and Graduation Ceremony of this reputed, leading educ ational Institution had its theme as "The American Education puts the world in your Hands" .Professor Susirith Mendis, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Hon.Lioel Premasiri , the Deputy Minister of social Services and Social Welfare..and Mrs. Premasiri were the Guests of Honour. Mr Suresh Yaseen, the Director Operations, Professor Sarath Amarasinge the Dean Academic R.H.M Piyasena, the Registrar of the College accompanied by a host of distinguished guests, parents, and a large number of well wishers participated at the event.
Dr.David Moore, the Associate Vice President for International Education Broward College, Florida USA in a congratulatory message on this significant occasion had stated "I will always have a deep sense of gratitude and admiration for your students and the fine leadership of the American College of Higher Education"
In his keynote address the chief guest, professor Susirith Mendis stressed on the role of the educational institutes on character building and training of human resources required for the development of the country. Congratulating the graduating and transferring students he said when they are studying in a foreign country they should focus on their studies and be determined not to be carried away by different attractions. He also said they should make the best out of the opportunities and be able to serve the country productively on their return. The other speakers at the ceremony were Professor Sarath Amarasighe, Dean Academic and Dr. Asiri Perera, Senior Lecturer Chemistry.
At this convocation 2 students were awarded Bachelors Degree, 20 students received Associate Degree from the Excelsior College USA, 75 students received Transfer Certificates, while two students were awarded MBA Transfer Certificates to North Dakota State University in USA.
A display of spectacular dancing and items of entertainment performed by the Students of the American International School (A subsidiary of the American College of Higher Education )and the undergraduates of the college added beauty and glamour to the occasion. Among them were both traditional dancing items depicting the rhythmic beauty of the village damsels like "Kale Ukule Thiala" and modern fast music such as ""Blue suede shoes" an imitation of the great singer Michael Jackson .
The Vote of thanks was proposed by Andreino Yaseen,an Associte Degree student of the College.
The Transfer and Graduation Ceremony of the American College of 2009 was followed by dinner and dance hosted by the College.
