Accredited Engineering Degrees

Engineering is a creative process involving the design of systems, components, or processes to meet desired needs. Engineering is a challenging but exciting and rewarding area in which to study. It is a rapidly advancing field that is having a significant impact on shaping modern society. By studying engineering, one will be able to understand the significant developments in modern technology and be prepared to play a role in shaping its future.

Engineering profession has been and will be in the forefront of development. It is a profession in which demand in constantly rising. Engineering graduates can work in a wide range of fields. Engineering background is also the basis for a career in business, finance, government, law, and medicine.

To get an entry-level engineering job, one usually needs a bachelor's degree in engineering. The Engineering Council, which is the regulatory body for the engineering profession in the UK sets and maintains the internationally recognized standards for two main categories of engineers - Chartered Engineers (CEng), and Incorporated Engineers (IEng).

Academic requirements for the two categories are:

1.Chartered Engineer (CEng)
nan accredited Bachelors degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Masters degree accredited by a professional engineering institution, or appropriate further learning to Masters level
nor an accredited integrated MEng degree

2.Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
nan accredited Bachelors or honours degree in engineering or technology
nor a Higher National Certificate or Diploma or a Foundation Degree in engineering or technology, plus appropriate further learning to degree level

Many students all over the world are considering a career in engineering in response to the global shortage of engineers. With this in mind, the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC) provides an opportunity for suitably qualified candidates to obtain Bachelor of Engineering degrees from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, or the University of Tasmainia, Australia.

This is an excellent educational opportunity for students who have not gained necessary scores to enter Sri Lankan Universities and who are unable to attend foreign Universities due to lack of adequate funds. The advantage of this arrangment is that an internationally recognised Bachelor of Engineering degree can be completed in full, all without leaving the home country and at less than half the cost of undergoing the entire course overseas.

University of Wolverhampton offers five BEng degree programmes that could be completed in full at CINEC.

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electronics and Communications Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronics
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Engineering Design Management
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Automotive Systems Engineering

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, which is a Member Institution of The Engineering Council (UK) has accredited all the above courses.
The University of Wolverhampton is a first class university spread over four campuses in the region and situated in the centre of England.

The University is amongst the largest in the UK with a student population of over 24,000.
The University of Wolverhampton is recognised as producing world class research and this has been reflected in the recent Government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) who identified the University of Wolverhampton as producing areas of research that is amongst the best in the world.
Australian Maritime College AMC, a Specialised Institution of University of Tasmania (UTAS) is associated with CINEC as an official partner in offering the following BEng programmes at CINEC on a two-plus-two basis.

nBachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture)
nBachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering)
nBachelor of Engineering (Marine and Offshore Systems)
AMC engineering degrees are fully accredited by Engineers Australia and recognised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (UK) and the Royal Institution of Naval Architecture. The four-year BEng degrees are recognised for Chartered Engineer status.
AMC is among the top 10 maritime training institutions in the world. AMC-trained engineers are highly regarded.

A reputation for excellence, coupled with an established student work experience programme and strong industry ties means many students find employment before they finish their studies.
AMC graduates can be found working in offshore oil and gas, ship building and repair, defence and a number of other related areas.

The faciliies available in the CINEC campus are second to none. The students have the benefit of exceptional teaching and laboratory facilities designed with extensive state-of-the-art technology.
