Nothing like a chillie to spice up proceedings and that is what is happening in the run-up to the Chillies, the Sri Lankan ad industry’s biggest event that draws controversy every year.
This week, the Chillies Committee announced that agencies that are not a member of the International Advertising Agency (IAA) or the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As), are ineligible to enter the 2010 Chillies awards, drawing a strong protest from Phoenix Ogilvy because it belongs to this category.
The Business Times learns that Chairman of Phoenix Ogilvy Irvin Weerackody has written to the committee describing the exclusion as an act of vengeance on the part of the Chillies organizing, steering and blue print committees.
He has said that it is well known in the advertising industry that Phoenix Ogilvy was not a member of either the IAA or the 4A’s, and despite this the agency has taken part in previous awards under this status. |
