The Intrad-Expo 2010 - International Trade Fair and Investor Forum, organized by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) will be held from May 7 to 9 at the BMICH, it was announced this week.
Chandra Lal de Alwis, President, NCCSL, told reporters said that there are 100 stalls and an SME pavilion will be available. Already 25 stalls have been booked by local entrepreneurs and four countries - India, Pakistan, Australia and Malaysia have confirmed participation in this international trade fair and invest forum.
Mr de Alwis said that even though the war is over for nearly a year now, foreign investors are not coming as expected due to several reasons. They want political stability and peace, infrastructure development while a big obstacle is the present taxation system which debars competitiveness and as a result countries like Bangladesh have a better edge as their taxation system is not so aggressive to attract foreign investors. He said this in answer to a question from a journalist.
He said that in a bid to further develop the tea industry, the NCCSL sent around 40 senior corporate and manufacturers of tea to China to learn about processing green tea and now some of these manufacturers have mastered the art of making green tea that has enabled some of them even to export their products. |
