Remanded candidate wants to attend Parliament session

Kalutara district UNP candidate Upali Thevarapperuma, who was elected to Parliament while in remand custody, is to appeal to the Magistrate’s Court to allow him to attend Thursday’s inaugural Parliamentary sessions.

Mr. Thevarapperuma has been in remand since last year for allegedly heading a mob attack on UPFA supporters in Yatadolawatta, Mathugama, after General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka handed over his nomination as the Presidential candidate.

He is to appear before the Matugama Magistrate tomorrow.
