Global Business Forum in Sri Lanka during IIFA

By Natasha Gunaratne

A Global Business Forum, geared towards making Sri Lanka an investment hub, is set to take place as part of the run up to the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards on 5 June 2010. The 2010 Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) -IIFA Global Business Forum is considered to be the highlight in the scheduled events and will define the economic and intellectual component of the four day long IIFA weekend.

At a press conference this week, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) announced that the Forum, which is the 11th edition to be held thus far on 4 June, will convene an elite group of speakers representing industry, government and academia in a candid panel discussion on the sectors that power Trade, Commerce & Investment, Cricket and Entertainment, and examine promising areas of cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.

While serving as a platform to showcase Sri Lanka to a delegation of 50 high ranking members of India’s corporate and business world, the Forum will be broadcast by CNBC and CNN-IBC to over 46 countries while also attracting a host of other local and international media.

SLTPB Managing Director Dileep Mudadeniya said in the past, the FICCI-IFFA Global Business Forums have attracted potential investors and businessmen to the host destination, which has resulted in a range of economic benefits to destination. “We look forward to this opportunity which will undoubtedly compliment and support the existing bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and India.”
