Being innovative and aware of one's purpose is the secret of success in any business, according to Laugfs Chairman, W.K.H. Wegapitiya; who recently spoke at the inaugural session of the University of Peradeniya's Guest Lecture Series, organised by the university's Master of Business Administration (MBA) Association.
Mr. Wegapitiya also advocated self-improvement through measures such as being aware of one's “expiry date” so as to leave a lasting legacy, knowing when to call it a day, learning to develop foresight from observing nature and teaching one's children to farm and meditate.
He noted that these were learnings from strict but loving parents who always emphasised nature's lessons for their children’s benefit and from humble beginnings growing up in typical straw-roofed farm house of that era, as well as a life of struggle including from his arrival at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura with only Rs. 200 to his name to being shortchanged by Colombo “contacts” and ultimately never giving up on his dreams and imagination.
