HP-branded printers and desktop computers are the most used among corporates in Sri Lanka; according to Shiran Perera, HP's Country Manager, Enterprise Business, for Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He further added that HP was also the dominant brand in terms of market share in both storage and blade enterprise hardware segments. It was also revealed that the company had already achieved 15% to 20% year-on-year growth for the enterprise segment, including a significant pick-up in the number of units sold. A situation that may be partially explained by customers, such as financial institutions, etc., expanding out of Colombo and into other areas of the country.
Mr. Perera's comments were made at the local presentation of the company's converged infrastructure platform which was held recently. It was also revealed during this presentation that this converged platform would reduce deployment time and power usage per core (CPU) by 50% and 30% respectively. Additionally noted was HP's new licensing policy shift from charging per core to charging per socket, a scenario which resulted in even greater affordability. Also, it was indicated that HP's converged infrastructure was compatible with blades from UNIX, Integrity and Xeon, etc. Meanwhile, the starting price of these systems was given as US$ 15,000. |
