United Tractors has won the silver award in 6 Sigma Presidents award ceremony held in Singapore for business management strategy surpassing many other Caterpillar dealers in the region, according to a press release issued by the company. This is the first time any Sri Lankan organization has won a major international award for 6 Sigma implementation.
6 Sigma is a business management strategy with widespread application in many sectors of the industry. 6 Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes, the release said. Each 6 Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has quantified targets. The success of each 6 Sigma project is measured by evaluating the achievement of these targets and contribution it made towards the process improvement.
United Tractors is one of the few companies in Sri Lanka to fully integrate 6 Sigma in its business processes. Their principal, Caterpillar is one of the leading global companies to embed 6 Sigma as a management philosophy. |
