Sri Lanka will be taking part in the Fiji International Junior Table Tennis Championships to be held in Tehran, Iran from October 25 to 29.
The Junior team will be led by Kalaneka Hendahewa of Royal College. Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha), Supun Sirisena (Maliyadeva) and Prabodhana Rodrigo (St. Anthony’s Katugastota) form the rest of the team.
Paris returnee Jagath Rajapakse will be the coach while Manzil Muthalib will be the Manager. A point of interest is that both manager and coach were members of the Sri Lanka team that participated in the Asian Championships in 1987.
According to manager Muthalib, the team has had rigorous practice sessions at the Anthonian Gymnasium and should be among the medals. The four players are the best in Sri Lanka in their age group and hold out a lot of hope. This is also coach Rajapakse’s initial outing with the team.
Incidentally, Rajapakse is also busy putting up a big gymnasium in Gampola with the intention of uplifting Table Tennis standards in the country
