Students can now access developers' software and e-learning programmes for FREE, simply by inputting their International Student Identity Card (ISIC) number on the Microsoft Dream Spark website. (www.dreamspark.com). Students should also look out for Microsoft's regular updates - they continuously add new software and features to this programme. Some of the free software includes Microsoft Visual Basic 2008, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 .
ISIC is a UNESCO endorsed identity card for any full-time student and entitles them to over 40,000 educational and lifestyle benefits worldwide, including Sri Lanka. Worldwide partners include Microsoft, Skype and Apple. Local partners of ISIC include Dialog, GoNuts, Sarasavi, Vijitha Yapa, Speed Drome, Mango & Jack Tree, Management Studio, Sandwich Factory, STA Travel etc.
To obtain an ISIC, students should produce valid proof of student status (e.g. record book, school identity, university offer letter) and 2 passport size photographs. The card is normally retailed at Rs. 1000 but to commemorate its public launch, the ISIC will be sold at a 50% discount at 'Young Drums 2011' - a school marching band competition and launch event to be held on April 3 at Green Path from 9 am to 6pm. In addition, the International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC) and the International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) will also be sold at a discount of Rs. 750.
