Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy (SIBA), a project of Sri Dalada Maligawa, is a unique liberal arts higher educational institution set up within a monastic and eco-friendly environment at Pallekele, Kundasale. SIBA's educational programmes are both national and international in scope, grounded on Buddhist principles and designed to produce local, national, and international leaders.

The fundamental philosophy on which SIBA operates is the Buddhist principle that ignorance and confused thinking is the root cause of most of our social and moral crises. Hence, SIBA believes in a wisdom and value-based education for Sri Lanka, and as such its main educational programme, a BA special degree in Buddhist Leadership, aims at producing graduates who are knowledgeable in Buddha-Dhamma through study, practice and experience, conversant in both humanities and social science disciplines, fluent in English, the mother-tongue, a research language and a foreign language, equipped with management, communication and IT skills, and committed to maintain law and order, and discipline in society and enhance social, economic, political, and religious well-being of all individuals and social groups and communities.

It is not intended to be a programme that merely provides book learning and theoretical knowledge but aims at giving an education based on the sublime teachings of the Buddha that will be conducive to the emergence of future leaders who give proper moral direction to Sri Lanka and to the international community for the amelioration of the human predicament in all aspects of life and living. In line with this same principle, SIBA plans to commence a two year MA degree course in Buddhist Studies in 2011 and a four year interdisciplinary Science degree in Mathematics, Management and Commerce, Information Technology and Buddhist Philosophy in 2012. SIBA's staff and students are actively engaged in this new educational exercise as a new generation of leaders who could serve humanity better.
