The Cricket Committee of Zahira College Colombo organized a felicitation dinner for the cricketers of the First XI cricket team of the college at the Main Hall recently. The driving force that gave way to the Cricket Committee to hold this event was the performance of the First XI Cricket Team during the season.
They participated in 18 matches at the Division ? out of which 4 were outright wins and 14 were drawn. They beat Kingswood, Thurstan, Maristella, Negombo and St John's, Nugegoda.

The notable key performances were 1425 runs scored by the skipper Imraz Rafi and a great bowling performance by Pradeep Ananda who snatched 59 wickets which made the Zahira team unbeaten during the entire season.
The event was a resounding success which not only saw the attendance of former cricket captains but also former cricketers. The cricketers were felicitated for their great performance and the Cricket Committee is also making arrangements to organize a tour to Malaysia for the team.
The chief guest at the event was Branudeen Amit and the Guests of Honour were, Muttiah Devaraj and Samsudeen Macan Markar (Former Cricket Captains of Zahira).
The chairman of the Board of Governors of Zahira College, Fouzul Hameed, and the Principal, Mohamed Jiffry also shared their thoughts by addressing the audience.
Distinguished old boys, cricket captains and cricketers also graced the occasion. The senior coach Mahesh Weerasinghe and the fielding coach Sampath Epasinghe were also felicitated for their good work along with the entire cricket team with valuable gifts.
Chairman of the Cricket Committee, Milhan Lafir who was instrumental in turning the Zahira 1st X1 Cricket team to a winning outfit and also played a vital role in organizing this event. It is certain that there will be more to come from the cricket committee of the College.
