The Wilpattu National Park warden has been transferred "with immediate effect" to the Udawalawe National Park, with no reason given for the transfer. The fax message informing Weerasinghe Dissanayake of the transfer was signed by the Minister of Wildlife, S. M. Chandrasena, and came through the North-Western wildlife zone office, based in Anuradhapura.
Mr. Dissanayake was posted to the Wilpattu National Park in 2009, and in his two years there initiated a number of programmes and projects to promote wildlife tourism among visitors.
In the meantime, the Udawalawe National Park warden, who took up his post in Udawalawe four months ago, has taken Mr. Dissanayake's post at Wilpattu. |
