Death fast by Ukrainian duo

Two Ukrainians who are currently being held at the New Magazine Prison at Welikada have begun a fast-unto-death to protest at poor facilities provided and ill-treatment by the jail authorities.

The pair was picked up in separate arrests in February last year and early this year on an alleged credit card fraud and has been remanded pending trial. The two have refused to call off their fast, which they began five days ago, until the authorities make arrangements to provide them with basic facilities.

They have been identified as Mazur Levegw and Sfnichenko Bogdaw. Prison officials could not be reached for comment.
