‘Siam House’, popular Thai Restaurant celebrated its eighteenth anniversary recently on a grand scale.
‘Siam House’ is known for its quality authentic Thai cuisine for nearly two decades and is the very first real Thai restaurant to start in Sri Lanka.
Started in 1993 with a seating capacity of 150 in Duplication road, Colombo offering Thai food for the first time in Sri Lanka, was not a hit in the first instant. ‘Though, Thailand is very close friend of Sri Lanka for Centuries, travelling to and from Thailand was not very frequent like now adays. Now the biggest overseas destination for Sri Lankans is Bangkok. So because of that we had a very slow start but became a popular place in nick of time’ explained Lionel Fernando, the proprietor of Siam House.
The restaurant shifted along the same road over a period of six years and finally in 2004 it relocated to its present house at No.17, Melbourne Avenue, Colombo 4. ‘Our present location has 250 seating capacity and air-conditioned comfort as well as a spacious garden, for guests who love an outdoor dinning experience’ he added.
Thailand is often referred to as the world’s Kitchen. Thai cuisine is known for its balance of fundamental flavours hot, sour, sweet and salty. Thai cuisine can be better described as a combination of four regions, Northern, North Eastern, Central and Southern. Regional variants include the use of different kinds of rice, coconut milk, different herbs and specially the curry paste.
‘Our cuisine at Siam House is combination of all four regions including Thai fusion dishes. We offer authentic dishes from regions and popular Thai preparation in our menu’ Lionel said
The senior executive chef of the restaurant, a Thai national has been with Siam House from the very beginning of the restaurant with his four assistants.
‘We import all our ingredients directly from Thailand to ensure that we provide our guests authentic Thai food’ he said. ‘We at Siam House have taken a lot of effort to ensure the guests’ dinning experience is beyond satisfaction from the classical Thai décor to the background music and ambience. Siam House is probably the only restaurant to combine all of this in one attempt’ he added.
Siam House celebrated its 18 years of successful operation on a grand scale recently. To mark this milestone of achievement Siam House offered 18% discount over a period of 18 days and organised a raffle draw for the guests who patronised us during this period.
