The teledrama ‘ ‘Star Sri Lanka Histhanak’ is one which gives a realistic insight of stars who are disillusioned about their success at a reality show but can’t get any further due to the camouflag system that exist in reality show business which brought them to game.
This teledrama is on a timely theme to discuss how sustainable the dream world that creates stars overnight could be shown to the audience of the developing world in Sri Lanka. ‘Star Sri Lanka Histhanak’ also focuses the younger generation who enthusiastically follow their dream to become stars but the audience that rejects their presentations that are artificiality yet enjoys the yesteryear songs presented by it. “This teledrama will definitely be a change to the trend of present day teledrama culture which is full of stereotyped themes and presentations. The script written by Dileepa was strealined and rewritten with most improvisation to present a good teledrama,” said Mahendra Perera speaking about his debut direction.

Having started acting in the late Gamini Fonseka’s film ‘Sakvithi Suwaya’, Mahendra had acted in a large number of teledramas and films winning the Best Actor awards in both fields. “It was hard for an actor to become a director as we want to get the best expressions and performances from all the actors and actress. This is a time consuming task which an expensive art like teledrama cannot afford,” Mahendra explained.
Having spent more than three decades of his life as an actor, “Star Sri Lanka Histhanak” is a new beginning for Mahendra.
A story about the reality idol concept based on a script done by Dileepa Abeysekara, the teledrama is produced by Jayalath Peiris.
At a certain point the “Star Sri Lanka Histhanak” also takes the pace of a musical teledrama as it contains a number of very popular songs sung by well-known singers.
The production shows how a rural tranquil life becomes a starry showbiz life and the milestone of a girl’s journey captured in a colourful way. It’s filled with romance, politics, money, jealousy and competition. This promises a brand new experience for viewers who will love the freshness of its concept and expression.
The cast comprising a large number of newcomers who had undergone training to act under Mahendra are Subiddhi Lakmalee, Sanath Wimalasiri, Gayan Wickrematillake, Priyankara Perera, Pubudud Chathuranga, Amith Walpola, Ronie Leech, Nilmini Kottegoda, Welegedara Ranasinghe, Asela Jayakody, Niroshan Ileperuma, Vishvanath Kodikara and Dasun Pathirana.
The technical staff will comprises of screenplay-- Dileepa Abeysekera, Camera-by Gamini Susantha and Dhammika Ratnayake, Editor- Udara Weeraratne, Music Harsha Ariyaratne, Art director-Suranga Gunatillake and Make up-by Indika Udaralankara.
