Denzil-Officer and a Gentlemen

The Late Denzil Kobbekaduwa will be remembered for years as an officer and a gentleman attached to the Sri Lanka Army for many years, not only as a soldier but also as a leading sports personality.

Denzil departed on 8 August 1992 through a bomb blast by LTTE. Denzil played for Trinity College (1957-59) and won his Rugby “Lion” in 1959. In addition to this he also won Colours in Cricket and Hockey at Trinity College.

After leaving Trinity he joined the Kandy Sports Club and later Army Sports Club. Once the playing career was over he took up refereeing and Rugby Coaching giving something back to the society.
A foundation was set up by his wife Lali and his daughters to look after the needy soldiers those who are injured and disabled in the war in North and East.
