When Dr.Harsha de Silva MP recently met with former Royal College Debating Captain Laknath Gunathilaka he had a simple and straightforward advice; "make Truman your platform and leverage all opportunities".
It was a brief but a memorable moment for Laknath who plans heading to Truman State University in Missouri within the next few weeks to have met with the first Lankan alumnus of Truman State. Laknath is transferring from the University of Kelaniya after completing a year, and says he had to make this difficult decision as he felt he wasn't getting anywhere, mainly as a result of the university being closed for extended periods of time.
This was when he sought the assistance of Priyanthi Dissanayake (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) who got him many attractive offers complete with financial aid over the counter. Laknath wasted no time in accepting Truman's offer which came with a wonderful scholarship and the promise of generous credit transfers.
Laknath plans majoring in Economics and would naturally be looking forward to sharpen his debating skills. About the guidance received from Scholarships for USA Laknath says; "they gave me confidence and walked me through a smooth passage getting me multiple offers and leaving me to make the final choice". They are very professional and work to a tight schedule, he added.
Harsha assured Laknath that it was a very smart move. He pointed out the very affordable cost, high quality education, safe and caring community, and small rural town with the traditional Midwestern acceptance of internationals. He urged him to go right up to Doctoral. Here too he had a word for the Royalist, a few years his junior; "up the game constantly" he said.
