The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Open University of Sri Lanka is one of the six departments belonging to the Faculty of Natural Sciences, which offers three disciplines namely Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science for the Bachelor of Science Degree programme. In respect of a new focus, the department initiated a certificate programme in Professional computer Applications in September 2010 and now in the process of starting the second batch of the same.
This certificate programme is intended to provide a wide knowledge on Anatomy of computers, Operating Systems and commonly used applications, the Internet, Microsoft Office Applications, Web application development (with PHP, MySQL, CSS) and management, Graphics and animations for web applications, Content Management Systems and working with Cpanel, a departmental spokesman said.
It can be followed by any person with a pass in English language at GCE Ordinary Level Examination or with an equivalent qualification. The duration of the programme is 06 months (Sundays - full day). Lectures are conducted in both English and Sinhala mediums while the printed course material and examinations are only in English medium.
The commencement of this programme will be on 16th October 2011. Applications are now issued from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. |
