A bridge in Panadura was damaged during the 2004 tsunami and warnings have been issued not to use the bridge but people continue to use it.
The bridge serves as the only link between the mainland and the people living in Modera Egodauayana.
The bridge was constructed in 1978, but the concrete pillars have given way. As yet no efforts have been made to renovate the bridge.
Former local council member Duminda Peiris said that the bridge needed urgent reconstruction.
