While a black dress is a must have in a woman’s wardrobe a bit of black can also add a splash of drama to any dress. It can be a simple headband, a corsage or a ribbon tied at the waist.
Stratergically placed it can add some extra oomph to any dress.
The most contrasting and complementing effect used over the ages is to mix black and white. From “My fair lady” to “Marilyn Monroe “ the mix of black and white has taken center stage time and time again. The key to wearing this “mix” is not to over do. Keep styles simple and
classic with not too much fuss. Black lace , ribbon, bead work, applique, buttons etc can be used to jazz up a white dress or vice versa.
Prints, checks and polka dots and stripes have been the hot favourites while other prints such as florals and abstract designs are also popular.
The idea here is not to wear the print from head to toe and while larger prints can be worn by slimmer figures it’s best to wear smaller prints on fuller figures. Also for larger sizes vertical stripes help make the figure look slimmer. Be careful when wearing horizontal stripes or bands across larger areas such as the hips.
All in all the idea is to keep the look simple and elegant with a classic feel. Use fabrics that are soft and feminine , lycra, silks, cottons etc. Accessorise mostly with black and white or a touch of red or silver for that glamourous look. For more details email - haddai@gmail.com.
