Motor vehicle registrations surpass 412,000 up to Nov. 2011

The Motor Traffic Department revealed that 412,225 new motor cars, three wheelers and motor cycles have been registered up to November this year. This was an increase of 31.7 % from 281,523 vehicles registered during the same period last year.

Vehicle registrations hit a new high with the number of motor cars registered with the department crossing the 53,848 mark up to November this year, up 65.7 % from 18,489 cars during the same period last year

Motor Traffic Commissioner General, B. D. L. He revealed that 75,831 three wheelers were registered with the department up to November 2010, an increase of 39.9 % to 126,247 during the same period this year.

Motorcycle registrations shot up by 20.42% from 184,709 units in 2010 (to November) to 232,120 units this year. In the 20 million population, approximately one among five people owns a motor cycle or a three wheeler, he said.
