The Sunday Times Business Club (STBC) is hosting probably one of the most-rarest discussions, when a group of experts discusses private, channelled practice of the medical profession, at the club's monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 28. The event, open to STBC members and special invitees, involves a panel discussion including Dr Vajira Dissanayake, President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), Dr Palitha Mahipala, Deputy Director-General, Dept. of Public Health Services, Ministry of Health, and Ms Kumudini Hettiarachchi, Deputy Editor, the Sunday Times and specialist writer on public health issues.
The event at the Taj Samudra Hotel titled "Private practice, the Government and the Patient" is expected to raise many issues on private, channelled practice of government doctors and patients' rights. Dr Dissanayake will provide a view on ''Private Practice", Dr Mahipala will deal with the state sector obligations while Ms Hettiarachchi will discuss the community perspective and the rights of both doctors and patients. Etisalat is the main sponsor of the club with Hameedia as the co-sponsor. The Taj Samudra is the host hotel. |
