Trinity’s Dickwella takes the plum

Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the year contest

Niroshan Dikwella who had a splendid season as Trinity College first XI skipper was picked the Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy All-Island Cricketer of the Year 2012 at the selections held on May 23 at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo. Dikwella who was adjudged the Best Captain of the Year was selected as the runner-up in the Best Fielder’s category while his name also appeared in other listed categories.
The selection done from entries and statistics received from 36 schools which are categorised as All-Island cricket playing schools.

The remaining schools were listed in the Emerging Schools category and Tharindu Kaushal of Devapathiraja Rathgama was picked as the Emerging Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012. Overall there 30 winners were picked by the selection panel which was headed by veteran cricketer and ex-national selector Jayantha Seneviratne. He was ably assisted by former national cricketer Brendon Kuruppu who also has been a former national cricket selector.

The panel included officials of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA), Association of Cricket Umpires of Sri Lanka (ACUSL) and the Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (APCU).
