The Colombo Tea Auction this week showed a stock of 5.41 million kg on offer with 2.35 million kg being Low Grown Main Grades and 1.93 million kg High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
Low Growns had met with good demand, Asia Siyaka Brokers stated in their weekly tea report.
Well-made OP/OPAs and below best varieties sold at dearer rates, but the poorer varieties were neglected. In the Semi Leafy catalogues most BOP1s sold at dearer rates all-round. Well-made shotty Pekoe’s and best varieties held firm; bolder varieties sold at lower rates; poorer teas gained in value. Pekoe1s’s were firm to lower all-round. In the Tippy Small leaf catalogues FBOP1s were dearer all-round. Select best FBOP / FBOPF1s sold at lower rates; others appreciated in value. FBOPFs met with good demand, it was stated.
There was good general demand in the Ex-Estate catalogues. Select best Western BOPs moved up Rs. 50 to Rs. 100, but prices were irregular following quality; others were firm to Rs. 50 dearer,
