The Colombo Tea Auction this week saw 5.55 million kg of tea on offer with 2.25 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.97 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues, Select Best BOP/OP1s were fully firm; whilst a range of best varieties too maintained. Bolder varieties were easier. Teas at the lower end were fully firm. Select Best OP/OPAs declined, whilst best varieties too were easier. Below best sorts declined further. Teas at the lower end were fully firm. Select Best Pekoe/Pekoe1s were fully firm, whilst a range of best varieties too maintained; others declined. Teas at the lower end too were irregular and mostly easier.
There has been less demand for seasonal Western BOP and BOPFs with values dropping sharply. Colourly well-made below best were however dearer upto Rs.50 and at times more and the bottom remained firm. Medium BOP/BOPFs were firm on last CTC BP1s were irregularly lower and CTC PF1s were irregularly lower upto Rs.30. (SD)
