With a total of 5.9 million kg of Ceylon Tea on offer this week at the Colombo Tea Auction prices declined for all categories as a result of the strengthening of the Rupee.
Ex-Estate offerings were similar to last and totalled 1 million kg. Overall the quality was barely maintained with a larger volume of offerings comprising average to plain quality teas.
Limited stocks of Select Best Western BOP/BOPFs were firm while others declined up to Rs.50 per kg. Better BOPs in the Below Best category were up to Rs.50 per kg easier, whilst the others declined up to Rs.100 per kg and more following quality. Nuwara Eliyas' were irregular and sharply lower. Uda Pussellawa BOP's declined Rs. 100 per kg and more.
High and Medium Grown CTC – BP1s were irregular and easier, whilst the PF1s declined Rs.50 per kg and more. Low Grown varieties – BP1s were substantially easier whilst the PF1s sold around last.
Low Growns comprised 2.2 million kg Leafy, Semi Leafy and Tippy markets met with fair demand at easier rates. (SD)
