SLT-MOBITEL has distributed dry rations and other essential items recently to COVID-19 affected families in the Kandy and Vavuniya districts who have been facing severe hardships.
SLT-MOBITEL distributed relief packs containing essential items and dry rations to settlements of the Ivankulam village and also to residents of the Asikuam village. Both communities are part of the Vavuniya divisional secretariat. Additionally, SLT-MOBITEL provided communities of the Poojapitiya area in the Kandy divisional secretariat and residents of Doluwa in Gampola, also part of the Kandy divisional secretariat with relief packs, the company said in a media release.
In undertaking the successful distribution of the relief packs, the company received the assistance and support of the officials of the respective divisional secretariats and the grama niladharis of the relevant areas.
Another noteworthy initiative undertaken by SLT-MOBITEL to help those affected by the pandemic was the special ‘Daana Paaramitha’ initiative. SLT-MOBITEL Pre-Paid and Post-Paid customers are invited to donate via SMS by simply typing ‘YES’ and sending it to 255. Every SMS will be charged Rs. 50 and in return, SLT-MOBITEL will match all public donations doubling the funds collected. Additionally, the funds collected are being used to purchase and distribute dry rations and vital medical equipment, helping distressed communities and the nation.
To-date, SLT-MOBITEL has engaged in a series of programmes to provide relief and assistance to all communities facing challenging times as a result of the pandemic. Among the programmes carried out by SLT-MOBITEL have been providing support to the frontliners in the health services, donating medical equipment and personal protective equipment, ensuring comprehensive connectivity to the quarantine centres and also ensuring uninterrupted services to government and private institutions.
