Sri Lanka Tourism successfully participated in the JATA Tourism Expo 2025, an international travel fair held from 25th to 28th September 2025 at the Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi International Exhibition Center) in Nagoya, Japan. As one of Asia’s premier travel trade events, Tourism EXPO Japan, launched in 2014 brings together global stakeholders across all facets of the tourism industry.
This year’s expo attracted participation from 82 countries and regions, represented by 1,350 companies and organizations. The event recorded a total of 127,677 visitors over its four-day span.
Sri Lanka’s presence was organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, along with 15 Sri Lankan tourism stakeholders who registered under SLTPB to showcase their offerings. The Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo extended its fullest cooperation in facilitating Sri Lanka’s successful engagement at the expo.
The official opening of the Sri Lanka Pavilion was graced by Sampath Nissanaka, Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, alongside representatives from participating Sri Lankan tourism businesses. The pavilion featured vibrant Sri Lankan cultural performances, including traditional dance acts, which drew significant attention from visitors. In addition, Ceylon tea was served throughout the event, receiving widespread appreciation from Japanese attendees for its rich flavor and aroma.
Japan remains one of Sri Lanka's top primary and high-potential tourism source markets. As of September 2025, Sri Lanka recorded 28,799 tourist arrivals from Japan, marking a 29.4% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Sri Lanka’s participation at JATA Tourism Expo 2025 served as a valuable platform to strengthen tourism ties with Japan, promote destination awareness, and highlight the island’s unique travel experiences to a global audience.
