Supreme Court directs Monetary Board to submit repayment plan in GK case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday directed the Monetary Board of the Central Bank (CB) to submit a repayment plan on June 4, for the consideration of depositors to arrive at a settlement of their FR case in accordance with the agreement reached by them with the Finance Minister and the CB governor.
The bench headed by Chief Justice K. Sripavan issued this directive. Deputy Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne appearing for the CB told the court that that the CB will conduct a due diligent audit on assets and liabilities of GK and take necessary steps to repay the security deposits of depositors.
At a meeting with depositors last Wednesday, Finance Minister Karunanayake gave an undertaking on behalf of the government to repay the deposits of all Golden Key depositors numbering around 7,000 within one year, provided the withdrawal of cases filed by them.
