Three new members have assumed duties as serving members of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CB) having been appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, under section 8(2)(c) of the Monetary Law Act with the approval of the Constitutional Council.
They are Sanjeeva Jayawardena, President’s Counsel who appointed as a member of the Monetary Board of the CB with effect from February 26, 2020, and Dr. Ranee Jayamaha and Samantha Kumarasinghe, appointed as members with effect from June 29, the CB said in a media release.
Sanjeeva Jayawardena is the first President’s Counsel to serve on the Monetary Board of the CB. He presently serves as the Chairman of the Monetary Board Risk Oversight Committee and has also been appointed as the Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the CB.
Dr. (Ms) Ranee Jayamaha has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Monetary Board Advisory Audit Committee of the CB. She also currently serves as a Director at Overseas Realty (Ceylon) Ltd. and the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies and as a Member of the Governing Council of the Marga Institute. She is a retired CB Deputy Governor.
Samantha Kumarasinghe currently serves as Chairman and Managing Director of several companies in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Vietnam that operate in industrial sectors across cosmetics, textile chemicals, household cleaning products, organic food and biological fertilizers.
He also serves as a member of the Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication (2020), President of Lanka Industry Forum for Empowerment (LIFE) (2018 to date) and Chairman of Cosmetics Sector Advisory Committee at the Ministry of Industries (2016 to date). (BS)
