The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has funded the construction of an IT lab at the Paranagamawewa Vidyalaya, Welioya, in collaboration with the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni. The contribution of the bank includes financial support for the purchase of building materials to construct a building for the lab, and donations of furniture, solar panels to power the school, and computers. The engineering services and labour required for this operation were provided free of charge by the Sri Lanka Army, the bank said in a media release.
Funded under a corporate social responsibility initiative of the bank that has already set up over 190 IT labs at schools and other institutions, the new building will aid the digital learning aspirations of students in this school located in the Mullaitivu District. This is the first IT Lab provided by the bank’s CSR unit which is powered by renewable energy generated through solar panels. The initiative also offered students the rare opportunity to learn solar technology from the engineers of the Commercial Bank’s Premises Department who provided them hands-on experience in installing solar panels on the roof of the new building.
