A research project on Ocean and Atmospheric Science in the Bay of Bengal is to be launched.
The project will facilitate the development of academic, research, undergraduate and postgraduate students' skills in other national universities and higher education institutions including the Ocean University of Sri Lanka.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ocean University of Sri Lanka and Notre Dame University in the United States was signed for a period of five years (2024-2028) for the implementation of the project.
The expected cost of the project is 62,000 USD. The Notre Dame and Washington Universities will provide a grant of 60,000 USD.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
