Wildlife Dept staff at Pigeon island into protecting deep-sea ecosystems
The staff of the Pigeon Island Wildlife Office recently carried out an effort to remove the garbage flowing from the sea to the Pigeon Island Marine National Park.
About 500 kilos of fishing nets, empty plastic bottles, etc., which were thrown into the sea by fishing vessels were collected.
The wildlife officers took the waste to land and destroyed it.
Fishing nets thrown into the sea by fishing vessels poses a great threat to the coral reefs of Pigeon Island and its associated fish and aquatic life.
Thus, it is more important for the attention of fishermen, tourists and the public to avoid dumping waste that is harmful to marine species.
