Good music, hearty food, lively camaraderie, and of course, plenty of beer set the tone for the opening night of Sri Lanka’s first rooftop Oktoberfest at The Podium, Cinnamon Life, Colombo, held from October 16 to 19. Guests were treated to an atmosphere perfect for dancing the night away while celebrating Bavarian traditions in the heart of the city.

Colombo’s largest Oktoberfest buffet offered a true taste of Germany, featuring classic delicacies such as Sauerbraten (roasted beef marinated in red wine vinegar) Schweinshaxe (crispy pork knuckle) Brathähnchen (roast chicken) and Leberkäse (a grilled meatloaf). Guests also enjoyed a selection of German sausages including Bratwurst, Weisswurst, and Cheese Krainer, served alongside traditional accompaniments like sauerkraut, sautéed potatoes, and mustard sauce. Appetizers included pretzels, German potato salad and Obatzda, a spiced Camembert dip, while desserts such as Apfelstrudel with ice cream and Rote Grütze (red fruit jelly custard) provided a sweet finish.

Adding to the festive mood, live bands including Slipping Chairs, Magic Box Mixup, Section 8, OIC, and Pop Culture performed hit songs spanning Abba to Sting, keeping guests on the dance floor all evening.
