Charity screening of Jayaflava, the new culinary travel show

Features

A special charity screening of Jayaflava will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. at Scope Cinema CCC.

Jayaflava, the new culinary travel series inspired by Tasha Marikkar’s acclaimed cookbook Jayaflava (HarperCollins), reframes Sri Lanka as a place of innovation, artistry and optimism. From electric tuk-tuk rides in Jaffna to meals in Asia’s 50 Best, from jungle crab hunts to the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, the show captures a nation reclaiming its narrative through creativity and cuisine.

The special screening will feature exclusive episodes from the show with a  Q&A with host Tasha and director Afdhel Aziz. Audiences will hear how Tasha and Afdhel collaborated across regions, worked with chefs, artists and writers, and sought to balance authenticity with cinematic storytelling.

“This is not just a food show,” said Afdhel Aziz. “It’s a story about identity, resilience and the joy of rediscovering home. Tasha and I wanted to represent Sri Lanka to the world as we see it — modern, multicultural and magnetic.”

Each episode centres on one iconic dish while exploring a key destination and its cultural heartbeat. Kotthu becomes a lens into Colombo’s street food and nightlife; hoppers trace Sri Lankan cuisine’s global rise; arrack reveals the island’s new coastal cool; crab curry explores Tamil heritage and Jaffna’s resilience; coconut celebrates everyday abundance; and lamprais unpacks the layered Dutch Burgher and Muslim influences of Galle.

The series will initially air on National Geographic India, reaching an estimated 17 million viewers across South Asia, with further international distribution underway.

Limited tickets for the screening on Saturday priced at Rs. 2500 will be available at the Premier Pacific Apt, 12, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Colombo 07. Tickets available from 9 am to 4pm. Please contact
