Kapila D. Silva, PhD, will explore different views in his lecture “Heritage Values of the City of Kandy from its residents’ perspective” on Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at the Auditorium of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, No. 6, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7.
The lecture is part of the National Trust of Sri Lanka’s monthly lecture series.
On June 23rd & 24 th, Dr Yuganthi Premachandra showcases her skills in cross-stitch with an exhibition titled ‘Stitching Tales’ at the Lionel Wendt Gallery.
Putthu Saha Piyavaru – (Sons and Fathers) - a film by Sivamohan Sumathy about two generations of musicians set in a time of political turmoil, will have its premiere on June 28, at 5 p.m., at the Joe Abeywickrama Centre, National Film Corporation.
‘Sea Sisters - Breaking Barriers, Making Waves’- a photographic exposition for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be on at from Saturday, June 29 to Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m at Alliance Française de Colombo, 11, Barnes Place, Colombo 7. Presented by the French Embassy to Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française de Colombo, the exhibition portrays the SeaSisters, a group of local female surfers based in Weligama in Sri Lanka, whose aim is to break the boundaries set by their backgrounds, society and the surfing eco-system by empowering local women and girls to swim and surf.
Lankan photographer Munira Mutaher contributed to this global photographic project. The exhibition will be launched on Saturday the 29th with a panel discussion.

I still remember the day of August 1947 floods, as it was the last school day at Kingswood College Kandy and the height the water soured.
