The Lionel Wendt Performing Arts Festival organized by the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund as its contribution to the promotion of the arts begins on November 16 and continues until Friday, November 19. The festival is being held after a hiatus due to COVID.
The Festival line up is as follows:
November 16: An Evening of Shakespeare
A selection of extracts of Shakespearean plays by the winning schools (Ananda College, Ladies College and Visakha Vidyalaya) of the All-Island Shakespeare Drama Competition of 2023.
Tickets: Rs 5000, Rs 4000, Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500.
November 17: Makara Alu Vessak
A selection of four Sinhala short plays presented by Three Idea Concept. The plays explore themes of national pride and social issues.
Tickets: Rs 3000, 2000, 1500 and 1000.
November 18: Music Unites
A choral performance programme by the choirs of the Soul Sounds Academy directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo.
Tickets Rs 5000, Rs 4000, Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500.
November 19: Thana Hendewa
A Sinhala fusion ballet performance presented by the Gayan Srimal Dance Troupe with contemporary dance styles mixed with up-country and low country dance traditions. Guest performances by Yashoda Wimaladharma, Dinakshi Priyasad, Nirosha Thalagala, Akhila Danudhdara and Saara Abeywardhana.
